Our studio

Since our establishment in 2008, Nspire has evolved into a multi-talented studio. We constantly have a range of projects on the go. We prescribe to the idea that architecture can do so much more than its basic function to provide shelter. It can also be shaped in such a way that positively affects the emotions and well-being of those who use it and the street around it. In a world that is always changing, we aspire to create architecture that's as stunning as it is responsive to its surroundings.

What makes us good at what we do

Our designs: Our ambition is to constantly search for ways to foster innovation. We enjoy that each new project comes with its own nuances. It allows us to express our creativity every day. At the same time, we take a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, ensuring that each project focuses as much on form as it does on function and buildability.

Our approach: We like to work in close collaboration with our clients to ensure the projects reflect how they want their projects to look, feel, and work. Getting the right outcome for our clients is our priority.

Our experience: Nspire has a long history specialising in alterations, new homes, and multi-unit dwellings. Simply put, we know houses.

We’ve also been a part of the move from the traditional Kiwi home to a more diverse range of houses which suit a much larger range of lifestyles. This includes bespoke homes, multi-units, townhouses, and even a straw bale home. We look forward to seeing what comes next in the future of building in Aotearoa.

Meet the team

Nspire is a small team of friendly designers and their growing pot-plant collection. Each of us has our own professional interests, including high-end design, commercial spaces, and sustainability. You'll often find us out and about testing new food or getting a coffee.

Our Team

  • After working for a small Wellington firm, Darryl found he loved the work so much that he founded Nspire. After a stint working solo, he began to grow the company into what it is today. He's a father of two kids and can often be found on a basketball court after work. He's also keen on badminton and motorsports. Darryl's passions and expertise lie in residential architecture, with an added interest in furniture design. His designs often feature a harmonious juxtaposition between the traditional elements of a home and contemporary design and methods of construction.

  • Thanh is an avid plant grower and often 'leaves' them to grow too tall, taking over his house, and ruining his ceilings. He has a BBSc from 2018. He is interested in food, gaming, and finding the perfect sunscreen. He can often be found dreaming of the days he could go to David Jones. He is a minimalist and prefers small, skux houses. Thanh is no frills, except Ray Bans and Johnny Depp-sponsored fragrances. He needs a pet cat or hamster as he's now venturing into his 30s.

    Thanh Tran

  • Mariana has her Masters in Interior Architecture. Her thesis explored the role of the interior architect in expressing marginalized communities in the heart of the city. Her thesis is based in Colombia, South America as this is where she was born. She has a particular interest in high density housing as well as commercial and retail spaces. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors, running and spending quality time with friends and family. She is also a dedicated plant mum, avid cat lover and coffee enthusiast.

    Mariana Restrepo Sierra

  • Maya wrote her Master’s thesis developing a new file-to-factory workflow utilising BIM tools and design for manufacture (DfMA) principles to explore the impact this process could have on the way we design and construct buildings. She has a particular interest in sustainable housing. In her spare time she enjoys going for walks, playing violin and spending time with family and friends.
